A Better Solution’s President, Kurt Buske, had the pleasure of awarding Gus and Amy Torres, CEO/Owners of A Better Solution Wichita, KS the distinct honor of “Best Brand.” Mr. Buske recognized Gus and Amy for outstanding achievement and contribution to ABS’s brand. Their hard work is evident in their growth, they tripled in size in 2017 and moved into a new office space in Wichita Kansas from Derby Kansas, a move that has placed the agency in a more central location. Gus and Amy have dedicated themselves to the service seniors, the medically frail, and their employees.
RH: What prompted you to get into home care?
AT: After watching our own parents having home care, we weren’t always happy with the service and we thought there had to be a better way. After seeing what Lia did with her agency and her philosophies, we realized there was a better way… a better solution.
RH: How long ago did you start your agency?
AT: We started in January of 2016
RH: What made you choose ABS?
AT: Lia’s personal background in caregiving, her success in business and her amazing staff.
RH: How did the change to the larger office come about?
AT: We decided we needed to be centrally located and we wanted to add room for training. We feel a well-trained caregiver will be the key to our success, and being centrally located makes marketing easier.
RH: What have been the most significant challenges in starting and also in growing the home care?
AT: Not having ever owned a business before, making decisions and knowing how to spend our money was a challenge. Also, balancing our time establishing our business with our home lives and children was a challenge. Recruitment of good reliable caregivers was challenging in growing the business.
RH: What have been the greatest achievements with your homecare?
AT: Watching our children’s excitement for helping others blossom. They’ve been getting involved, our oldest has been a caregiver and provided transportation, our middle child wants to become a marketer and took a marketing class in high school this year, and our youngest wants to be with us at all our events and loves our new office.
RH: How do you celebrate your clients?
AT: We get personally involved with our clients and their families. We take flowers and cards for sympathy. We send our clients birthday cards too.
RH: How do you celebrate your caregivers?
AT: We give them a Caregiver of Month award each month. We go by and see them at their client’s home and take them small tokens of our appreciation like candy and lotto tickets. We also hold a summer BBQ and a Christmas dinner for them each year.
Gus and Amy have a specified area in their new office dedicated to training caregivers to prepare them for the work of caring. The extra detail they put on their staff and clients is evident in their success.
