Introducing David Lyell

David Lyell has a heart for service and enjoys helping people. Through his extensive retail management experience, David has seen how superior customer service can have a positive effect on people. While working in real estate, David would go the extra mile for clients so they were comfortable with their decisions. Similar to what ABS does during our client assessment process, David listened to his clients to try to understand their needs and strove to meet and exceed expectations. In real estate, David encountered many clients who were trying to downsize to a smaller home because their current home was becoming hard to take care of, and others who were trying to find a home with extra space so their parents could be closer to them.

David experienced caregiving himself after his father passed away. David’s mother didn’t want to leave her home. She would complain about the house being too much for her so David, his brother, and sisters would take turns driving to their mother’s home to help her out. David found that it was difficult getting over to his mother’s house every week and that his personal affairs would often get in the way or even have to be neglected. David and his siblings looked into residential care facilities for their mother, but she would not agree to move from her home due to a fear of losing the independence she had left. Through this experience, David came to appreciate the challenges that caring for a loved one involves and the toll it can take on family. Looking back, David realizes that home care would have been a helpful option for his family and he is motivated to bring that solution to other families in need.

When David met Lia Smith, ABS’s founder and CEO, he was immediately drawn to her vision of being the best home care provider in business, going above and beyond in service and compassion. After talking to Lia, David shares that he knew this was the business he wanted to be in – to be able to help people like his mother who just needed a little extra care to maintain the lifestyle she was accustomed to. David’s philosophy is that his ABS franchise doesn’t have to be the biggest home care provider, just the best.
